Your Google Business Profile is often the first interaction potential customers have with your business online. An optimized GBP listing can mean the difference between getting the call or losing the customer to a competitor.
Claim and verify your listing first. Go to business.google.com and either claim your existing listing or create a new one. Verification usually requires a postcard mailed to your business address, though phone and email verification are sometimes available.
Choose your primary business category carefully as it is the single most important ranking factor for Google Maps. Be as specific as possible. Add up to 9 additional secondary categories that are relevant to your business.
Write a compelling business description using all 750 characters. Include your main keywords naturally, highlight what makes you unique, and include a clear call to action.
Add high-quality photos and videos regularly. Businesses with photos receive 42% more direction requests and 35% more click-throughs. Include photos of your storefront, interior, products, and team members.
Use Google Posts to share updates, offers, events, and products directly on your listing. Posts appear in your GBP panel and can include call-to-action buttons. Post at least weekly.
Products and services should be listed with descriptions and prices. This gives potential customers immediate information and helps Google understand what you offer.
Respond to every review within 24 hours. Thank positive reviewers specifically and address negative reviews professionally. Your responses demonstrate your commitment to customer satisfaction.
